Holiday Sourdough Recipes: Thanksgiving, Christmas & Beyond
Nov 04, 2026
Between now and 2027, your oven is going to be busy. Thanksgiving lands on November 26, Hanukkah runs December 4 to 12, and then it's Christmas and New Year's. And that's not to mention the potlucks, the parties and the unanticipated gift from a neighbor - that has you scrambling for something nice to give them.
So we've gathered every recipe on SourdoughGeeks.com that belongs on a holiday table, in a gift basket or under a pile of leftover turkey. Most are freely available on our public recipes page. A handful live in the Bakers Club members' collection, and we've put those in their own section at the end so you know which is which. Let's get into it!
For the Thanksgiving Table
- Sourdough Dinner Rolls - Pillowy, pull-apart and, in our house, as non-negotiable as the turkey.
- Cornbread Sourdough - Great on its own, and days-old cubes make a cornbread-style stuffing worth planning ahead for.
- Cranberry, Pepita, Polenta Sourdough - A soft, cranberry-studded loaf built for Thanksgiving leftovers (and any sourdough skeptics at the table).
- The Pretty Pumpkin Loaf (900g Moderate Hydration Plain Sourdough) - Shaped like a pumpkin and made to sit center-stage at a fall feast.
- Pumpkin Spice Babka - An enriched, swirled showpiece for the gathering that needs a dessert-adjacent bread.
- Dried Plum, Crystallized Ginger, Five-Spice Sourdough - Warm spice and soaked fruit; a seasonal crowd-pleaser from our bakery days.
For Christmas, Hanukkah and Gifting
- Double Chocolate Orange Sourdough - Deep cocoa, bright orange and a long ferment; our idea of a December celebration loaf.
- Luxe Fruit & Nut - A jewel-box loaf that gave the Double Chocolate Orange a run for its money in our bakery's holiday sales, and a natural partner for a cheese board. Also makes amazing crackers when sliced thinly and dried out a little, like those over-priced, mass-produced "artisan" ones we all fall for - only these really are hand-crafted.
- Cranberry Walnut Sourdough Bread - Bursts of berry sweetness and nutty bitterness - the perfect balance and handsome enough to wrap up and give away. Also way less work and cost compared to the Luxe loaf above.
- Stone-Milled Sourdough Bakewell Galette - Wrapped in parchment and tied with string, it makes a lovely homemade gift.
- Sourdough Challah - A glossy braided centerpiece for a Hanukkah table, or any table that wants one.
For the Days in Between
- Polenta & Pumpkin Seed Sourdough - Thick-sliced alongside a big pot of soup when everyone's had enough of fancy food.
- Olive Rosemary Polenta Sourdough - A savory loaf that holds its own next to a roast or a holiday spread.
From the Bakers Club Collection
Everything above is freely available. These next six are members-only recipes, which is just one of the many perks of being inside Sourdough Geeks Bakers Club. If you're already a member, they're waiting in your Library. If you're not, and want to see what else members get, tap here. You may come for the recipes, but you'll stay for the rest!
- Festive Cranberry Sourdough Sausage Stuffing - The stuffing that's become a Bridges family Thanksgiving favorite, and it feeds 18.
- Yeasted Sweet Potato Dinner Rolls - A second dinner roll option for the table since, as the recipe says, Thanksgiving without rolls is a bonkers idea.
- Sweet Potato, Ginger & Chinese Five-Spice Sourdough - "Thanksgiving in Chinatown": a warming riff on the Dried Plum loaf above.
- Brioche Cinnamon Rolls (Dec 2025 Edit) - Our updated cinnamon rolls, with an overnight-proof option timed for Christmas morning.
- Shokupan (Japanese Milk Bread) - Impossibly soft slices, made for the leftover turkey sandwich.
- Sourdough Pain de Mie - A tight, tidy sandwich loaf for the same job, and for French toast the morning after.
More on the Way Before the New Year
This list will grow. We have more holiday recipes coming out before the end of the year, and we're also running three special events, open to everyone, to help with your holiday baking. If you're not ready to join Bakers Club, that's fine: at the very least, get on our mailing list (scroll down for that) and we'll let you know the moment new recipes go live, and when you can sign up for the events. Happy baking, and may all your loaves rise to the occasion.
